Confidentiality and ethics

I abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (July 2018). This includes a respect for human rights and human dignity and a commitment to recognising human diversity, equality and inclusivity of treatment.

I am also registered with the Office of the Information Commissioner and fully abide by the new GDPR regulations for management of confidntial data.

I am also committed to maintaining confidentiality for my clients. I will not divulge information that is given to me in therapy. I do, of course, have regular clinical supervision and will discuss clinical material with my supervisor who also works in a similar ethical fame work. In accordance with the law, there are two exceptions when I am no longer able to maintain confidentiality. The first of these relates to disclosures regarding terrorism and the second to disclosures about drug trafficking.
