Supervision of counsellors and psychotherapists

I am a qualified and highly experienced psychodynamic supervisor.

I have a Certificate in Supervision from the Society of Analytic Psychology. I have worked as a supervisor for over twenty years working with counsellors in private practice and within an organisational setting. I also supervise several groups of counsellors from a range of different modalities as well as other professionals.

For me supervision has a number of purposes.

Firstly, it helps us focus on our clients and explore what they are bringing to counselling and how we can best help them with these issues.

Secondly, it is a place where we can analyse how we can work with transference and countertransference. This is key, and it requires that the counsellor and the supervisor develop a trusting relationship where difficult transferal issues can be discussed.

Thirdly, it is a place for learning. In supervision theory and practice can be brought together allowing us all to learn and develop our ideas. There are lots of exciting developments in our field, particularly in areas such as neuroscience or in a growing awareness of the social and environmental causes of mental distress. I endeavour to keep up-to-date with these ideas through my own CPD, my reading and my teaching.

Fourthly, it helps us unpack ideas and feelings, to articulate what might otherwise be lost.

If you would like a trial supervision session please give me a call or email me.

I charge £40 per hour for supervision.
